BLUE LAGOON Summer Foraging With Tapas – info & links

I have a new location for 2025 – the lovely Blue Lagoon Nature Reserve, MK. Plus I’m still running courses at the Globe, Linslade, and at Tiddenfoot Waterside Park.

The Blue Lagoon is host to many wildflowers that thrive on poor soils, plus some really surprising escaped ‘naturalised’ plants such as psychotropic Datura (Thornapple or Jimson Weed), Mullein, Lovage, White Valerian, and Japanese Honeysuckle writhing wild through the tree canopy.

For those that have been on my previous forages in Leighton Buzzard, this is a chance to learn about some completely different plants and how to use them (or NOT use them, in the case of Datura!).

We’ll be sampling 3 completely new Summer tapas from plants found at the Blue Lagoon.

Tapas are a small amount of food, and so very sustainable. My group sizes are kept small, and if there isn’t enough of a plant growing, I won’t use it. I’ll also do my best to help plants thrive by spreading pollen/seeds…which is usually what the plant intends for us! If I can, I source plants from my organic allotment.

It’s also a great, if off the books, place for wild swimming. I swim here regularly with the MK Blue Tits. Bring a changing towel, swim wear and your own drink/food though, as it’s a true wild space with no buildings. It’s a good idea to swim with others too.

I’ve found Cormorants, Pink Footed Geese, Damselflies, Great Crested Grebes and Glow Worms here. It’s a magical place. The waters teem with fish.
